The 19th edition of the Japan Cup took place on Sunday at King Abdul Aziz Equestrian Square in Riyadh, with Saudi equestrian Adel Al-Faridi winning first place with his hybrid horse La Casa Tarifa.

Hirofumi Miyake, interim Japanese chargé d’affaires in Riyadh, attended the event, which was supported by the Japanese Horse Racing Association. Purebred Arab horses and hybrids participated on the 2,400-meter racetrack.

The Japan Cup, held annually in Saudi Arabia, is among other joint tournaments aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.

The Royal Saudi Cup has been held annually in Japan since 2014, and is attended by more than 100,000 Japanese horseracing fans.

The Japan Cup in Riyadh is attended by senior Japanese horseracing officials, and garners widespread attention from horse owners.
