Sony is set to buy popular anime streaming service Crunchyroll for over ¥100 billion JPY ($957 million USD), according to recent reports.

The companies are currently in the last round of negotiations. The news of the acquisition comes after Sony recently bought another streaming service Funimation, with a 95 percent controlling stake.

Sony plans to expand its entertainment offering and compete with streamers like Netflix and Hulu.

Acquiring Crunchyroll, which has over 70 million concurrent free members and three million subscribers in more than 200 countries, would help Sony enter the competition.

The Japanese company will have more than 1,000 titles when it acquires the streaming service.
