The year 2019 saw the UAE’s participation in several Olympic-related events, including the exchange of expertise as well as forums and conventions hosted by the National Olympic Academy (NOA).

A statement released here said that Emirati girls were up to the challenge in GCC Women Games this year and managed to bring home 54 medals in the sixth edition of the Games held in Kuwait.

The UAE ranked second in the overall medal ranking, which is an unprecedented achievement in the Games. “At the end of the Games, the UAE raised its medals collection in GCC games to as much as 161 medals since the games were launched in Kuwait in 2008,” the statement said.

During the year, the National Olympic Academy (NOA) reviewed a visual presentation of 3X3 basketball competition and its presence in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, where games are set for an official start from the upcoming Tokyo Games 2020.

According to the statement, the NOC participated in the Regional Forum for Western, Central and Southern Asia, which was organized by the Asian Olympic Council in cooperation with the Olympic Solidarity Committee in Bangkok.

The forum reviewed the final preparations of the Olympic committees participating in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, said the statement.

The National Olympic Academy took part in the People of Determinations brother’s forum, organized by the Special Olympics in Dubai for 20 members of brothers of people of determination with the aim of achieving the required support in society and communication with all different groups.
