The UAE-based hobby shop Otaku ME recently launched the “Free Gunpla Build Experience” event at Times Square Center, Dubai, UAE, to introduce the public to the world of Gunpla, while simultaneously celebrating Japanese culture.

The event will take place from July 30 – September 11 and will be open daily from 10AM to 10PM (UAE time) with activities taking place from 2PM to 6PM.

The “Free Gunpla Build Experience” aims to promote the Gunpla hobby, which centers on model kits depicting the vehicles and characters of the fictional Gundam multiverse.

The store is known to be the biggest of its kind in the GCC region, and is the official distributor for several brands for hobby supplies such as Gundam Model kits “Gunpla” and scale models from “Bandai Spirits” and “Tamiya.”

The main features of the event include the “Gundam Build Experience” where people can experience the hobby through building a Gundam Model Kit for free. The second feature is is the “Model Kit Exhibition” where people can learn more about Gundam and Gunpla as well understand the modeling and mechanical details of Gundam that are frequently used to connect anime with the real world.

The third feature is the “Model Kit Painting Challenge” where participants who have built the free model kit can participate in the painting of their Model Kit Painting, which will allow them to enter the challenge and potentially win a prize.

The activities included throughout the event will be free, however participants will be requested to register prior to attending.

“People who came said that the Free Building experience is a great, fun way to try out a new hobby and it gives them a time to focus, relax and enjoy a meditative process of assembling something. There’s excellent flow of creativity with the painting challenge and overall, a pleasant time,” A representative of Otaku ME told Arab News Japan.

Otaku ME was founded in 2013 by Qais Sedki, who is an Emirati with a passion for Gundam model kits. The store also conducts workshops and mini competitions, as well as large annual contests, during which international professional modelers participate as judges.
