DUBAI: Veteran voice actor Hiroshi Ohtake passed away on Aug. 1 at the age of 90 due to heart failure. he debuted his career as voice actor in Wolf Boy Ken (1963) anime series.

Many actors and artists paid tribute to the late Ohtake on social media after learning of his death.

Voice actress Mariya Ise (Killua Zoldyck in Hunter x Hunter ‘2011’, Levy McGarden in Fairy Tail & Eureka in Pokémon) said on Twitter: “Mr. Otake… Grandpa Zeno… I sincerely pray for the repose of the soul. thank you very much…”

Japanese voice actor and singer Jun’ichi Kanemaru said on Twitter: “Ever since we worked together on the TV anime series ‘Tandite Tonchinkan.’ Every time I met him, he talked to me with a smile. Dear Mr. Hiroshi Otake, I pray for the repose of your soul.”

Legendary Japanese voice actor Toshio Furukawa (Piccolo in Dragon Ball, Portgas D. Ace in One Piece & Ataru Moroboshi in Urusei Yatsura) said on Twitter: “I saved this photo. The late voice actor Ohtake was known for his roles in many anime series such as: Boss is Mazinger Z, King Nikochan in Dr. Slump, Koike from Obake no Q-Taro, 004 in Cyborg 009 (1968), Sanpei in Speed Racer and Zeno Zoldyck in Hunter x Hunter (2011).

He was also known for his work in multiple TV shows, commercials and drama.

Ohtake earned the Merit Award for the 9th Annual Seiyū Awards in 2015. The award is given to voice actors who have contributed to many genres, including foreign works, over the years.
