TOKYO: Panasonic Corporation’s Automotive Company worked with Nissan Motor Corporation to develop a new high-performance rearview mirror for a recently released compact SUV.

The electronic mirror aims for increased safety through higher definition images and by controlling flicker from LED lamps.

Designed for Nissan’s KICKS compact SUV, which was released July 30 in Japan, the 4th generation electronic mirror features a sleek, frameless design and produces more defined images than the conventional model, making use of a 2-megapixel camera and a higher resolution display.

The mirror is designed to aid drivers’ vision and safety by increasing night visibility and controlling flicker from LED lamps. In addition, because the image on the mirror is recorded by a camera placed in the rear window, passengers in the back seat cannot obstruct the view like with a traditional rearview mirror.

Panasonic is a major Japanese electronics company that has been in business for more than 100 years.  It currently operates 528 subsidiaries and 72 associated companies worldwide, and its consolidated net sales for the fiscal year ending in March came to 7.5 trillion yen (about $70 billion).
