TOKYO: Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on Friday stressed on deepening the cooperation with the United Arab Emirates in new fields such as clean energy and advanced technology, as well as oil and gas.

The ministry said in a statement that an agreement to reach that goal was reached during a meeting earlier this week between Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Koichi Hagiuda and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and the CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

The ministers discussed energy issues including stabilizing the oil market and strengthening relations in the fields of clean energy and advanced technology. They attended the signing ceremony for a Joint Study Agreement on clean hydrogen production between Mitsui & Co., ENEOS, and ADNOC.

Hagiuda, according to the statement, expressed his gratitude for the stable supply of crude oil to Japan and called for cooperation toward stabilizing the international crude oil market and investing in production capacity.

Hagiuda also mentioned the need to facilitate a balanced energy transition to respond to climate change while ensuring sufficient energy security, particularly in light of the situation in Ukraine.

Under the Joint Study Agreement on clean hydrogen production, Mitsui & Co., ENEOS and ADNOC will study the commercial feasibility of blue hydrogen production in the TA’ZIZ area of the Ruwais Industrial Complex in Abu Dhabi and its export to Japan.
