TOKYO: Tokyo has been ranked as the No. 1 city in the world’s “Best Big Cities” category for the second consecutive year in the Readers’ Choice Awards 2025 of the US edition of Condé Nast Traveler magazine, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has reported.

“The continued recognition of Tokyo as the world’s most captivating city reflects the success of public-private initiatives to enhance visitor infrastructure and create immersive cultural experiences,” the city said in a statement.

Tokyo Governor KOIKE Yuriko commented: “Being recognized for two consecutive years reaffirms Tokyo’s diverse appeal and immense potential for further growth on the global stage. Tokyo is a rare city where tradition and innovation coexist and enrich one another, creating new value and making the city captivatingly unique on the global stage.”

Koike highlighted the blend of traditional culture and cutting-edge pop culture, including anime and manga.

She also pointed out that Tokyo’s distinctive islands are rich in marine resources and natural beauty, while the city itself offers “an extraordinary variety of food from around the world, catering to every culinary taste.”

“Looking ahead, we will continue to refine Tokyo’s appeal so that we can welcome even more visitors from Japan and abroad and help them create unforgettable memories in our vibrant city,” Koike said.
