DUBAI: Japanese tuna master Yukitaka Yamaguchi, known as the ‘King of Tuna,’ made his first Middle East appearance in Dubai to mark the opening of the Country Hill: Prime Gourmet flagship store on Jan. 21.
The tuna master used Oma tuna during his tuna-cutting showcase at Country Hill: Prime Gourmet. Known for its rich creaminess and tasty flavor, Oma tuna is one of the finest quality Japanese tunas.
Yamaguchi’s presence gave chefs and food enthusiasts a rare opportunity to witness the expertise behind its selection firsthand.
“I would love to portray this wonderful fish because this area (where Oma tuna can be found) is one and only in Japan. It can’t be found in other countries, so I really wish to introduce this kind of fish here,” Yamaguchi told Arab News Japan prior to his showcase.
“A lot of people here study Japanese culture, but still there are so many people who are hesitant to fish nowadays, so I truly wish the Japanese food culture (especially for seafood) to be continued and introduced everywhere,” he added.

Guided by standards of Tokyo’s Toyosu Market, the renowned fishmonger used fine techniques to cut the fish directly in front of the guests, who were fascinated by his precision and efforts.
Throughout the show, guests showcased their appreciation while Yamayuki explained in detail various tuna types and how they differ.
“I didn’t expect so many people to come. It’s very heartwarming. I’m happy to introduce this wonderful Japanese fish here,” Yamaguchi told Arab News Japan.
After Yamayuki concluded his show, guests indulged in fresh sashimi, and they were impressed by the quality and taste.
IMANISHI Jun, Consul-General of Japan to Dubai, attended the Prime Gourmet grand opening and told Arab News Japan that Yamaguchi’s visit to Dubai highlights authentic Japanese seafood flavors in the UAE.

“Japanese tuna tastes completely different from that found in Europe and elsewhere. What I hope people will understand is that the excellence of Oma tuna does not simply depend on it being “delicious”; multiple conditions must be met, such as the favorable environment of Japan’s coastal waters, the tuna’s diet, the timing of the catch, and the exceptional efforts of skilled tuna fishers. We are delighted to welcome Yamaguchi in Dubai,” he said.
Located in Umm Suqeim, the new Country Hill: Prime Gourmet store showcases a new standard for premium food retail in the Middle East, combining exclusive products, professional guidance, and immersive culinary discovery.
The store serves as one of the only spots in Dubai for UAE chefs and food enthusiasts to experience Yamaguchi’s tuna and experience Japanese tuna mastery firsthand.
