Japanese retail company, Muji, is tapping into home décor and interior by offering a furniture rental service available at 182 of their stores in Japan.

Customers can either choose to rent the pieces or eventually purchase them, targeting customers who may be looking for temporary furniture priced as low as approximately 800 yen ($7).

Furniture sourced by the retailer can be rented for one to four years, with each plan priced differently.

Muji offers four shelve options, four beds, two tables and three different styled chairs to appeal to the customer’s preferences.

Muji’s “origin was a thorough rationalization of the manufacturing process with an eye to creating simple, low-cost, good quality products. Specifically, we reexamined products through three lenses: material selection, inspection process and packaging simplification,” their website states.

The brand is dedicated to offering services and products rooted in practicality, or “rational satisfaction” according to their official website.

They recognize that they have acquired a reputation as a brand that offers simple products, at a lower price, birthed from a nature-oriented approach.

Muji continues to sell clothing, household products, amongst other items, and have just begun selling plant-based meats, as well as opening their first hotel.
