UAE, Canada Judo match causes social media storm

DUBAI: Social media users noticed an ironic incident during a Judo match that took place between UAE and Canadian opponents.

The UAE athlete was named Ivan Remarenco, a foreign non-Arab name, meanwhile the Canadian one was called Shady ElNahas, a traditional Arab name.

Many took to Twitter to comment on the fact that the UAE player had a foreign name compared to his Canadian counterpart.

Abu Dhabi Sports TV reported on the match on Twitter, proceeding to cause many users to leave humorous comments under the post.

The match took place on July 29, and Remarenco lost to ElNahas in the round of 32 competitions at the Tokyo Olympics
