TOYKO: Japanese hotel operator Sumitomo Fudosan Villa Fontaine Co. showed the press Tuesday a new hotel in Tokyo that gives guests the chance to enjoy a holiday with dogs.

At a time when hotel demand has been sluggish due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the company aims to attract dog lovers.

The “inumo” hotel, set to open near Shiba Park in the capital’s Minato Ward on Feb. 25, has a dog-friendly restaurant as well as pet toilets in guest rooms.

The walls and floors are made of materials that are easy to clean in a bid to ensure hygiene so that dogs can freely run anywhere in the hotel.

An overnight stay will cost around 40,000-yen per person, including breakfast and use of some facilities.

The operator said a hotel of this kind  is rare in the metropolitan area, adding that it will consider expanding the specialized accommodation service to cats and other pets if it can confirm a certain level of demand.
