Durable, energy-efficient, and customizable, Japanese home goods brand MUJI’s prefabricated home options are proving to be more than just a roof over your head.

Named Yō no Ie House – or Sun House – this is the fourth offering in the company’s line of prefabricated homes.

The company claims that the launch has come in response to a specific demand, which is for low-profile homes within suburban and rural areas.

As such, it is clear that MUJI has a specific market segment in mind – Japan’s aging population looking for low-maintenance and stair-free houses.

Going by the look of things, the house is neatly positioned for retirees around the world. MUJI has been in the homebuilding industry for over 15 years.

In 2015, it dabbled with Japanese-style micro-homes before launching the prefab Muji Hut in 2017. World-famous designers Jasper Morrison, Konstantin Grcic, and Naoto Fukasawa designed the micro homes.

Container-delivered for the sum of USD 150,000, the prefab home has roughly 80 square meters of interior, which adds up to 95 square meters with the outdoor deck space.

With Muji coming second as the most recognized Japanese brand in the Arab News YouGov survey on “How Arabs View Japan”, fans of the brand will be disappointed that it is available for purchase only in Japan at the moment.

However, the Yō no Ie House promises to travel the distance as and when it catches the world’s imagination.
