Amin Abbas

Vercreek, is a talented animator who worked on major Japanese anime projects such as: Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaguya-sama: Love is War -Ultra Romantic- and Ranking of Kings.

In an exclusive interview with Arab News Japan, Vercreek shared his inspiration regarding anime and manga, he said: “I really like Hunter x Hunter, Mahoutsukai no Yome, One Piece and Made in Abyss. I’m really into world building and I like to see all of the sights those worlds can offer,” he said.

About the establishment of his career as an animator, Vercreek said: “I didn’t really get into animation because of anime and manga. my friend Josh introduced me to an online website where you can ‘duel’ against other artists. I was really excited at the concept; I was very competitive even at the start so it fit me well. From there one thing led to another and I ended up working for anime.”

“For me, animation is a personal expression that you can learn and refine. You can spend countless hours improving certain parts of your abilities, learning new abilities all to make your ideal. The attempt at that ideal is our expression of ourselves, and the more we train the more that ideal becomes apparent,” he continued.

One of his first projects was for the opening of ‘Dropkick on My Devil!! Dash,’ Vercreek was also involved on Episode #17 of Jujutsu Kaisen, he said.

Vercreek worked with many people including Hakuyu Go and Itsuki Tsuchigami, and as a result he learned how to look at animation from a more directorial and technical perspective.

About the challenges that he faced during his projects, Vercreek said: “If anything, it was my learning speed. I like to take work that’s a bit above of what I can do so I can learn faster, but sometimes I struggle to meet that.”

About his thoughts of the animation industry in terms of animation style, technology and direction in the next 10 years, Vercreek said: “There’s a lot more implementation of 3D in animation, not in the CGI sense, but 2D sakuga using 3D base to build up from. It creates a new and interesting feeling that feels fresh,” he said.

Vercreek advises those hoping to tap into the industry to start animating to help you improve. Emphasizing how improvement is a series of small steps.

“It does take time to get there, but by constant drawing you get there much quicker. There is a world full of references, media and people to meet. Use these to your advantage and have fun,” he added.
