TOKYO: Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy of the United Arab Emirates to Japan, met with Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko on Thursday and pledged to expand the relationship between the two countries.
Kamikawa noted the importance of Japan’s relationship with the United Arab Emirates. “Japan attaches great importance to its relationship with the UAE as a strategic partner,” she said. “Cooperation between Japan and the UAE has gone far beyond the traditional energy sector. It is now expanding to a wide range of areas including decarbonization, advanced technology, education, culture, tourism, space, and defense.”
Kamikawa praised Dr. Al Jaber for his commitment to the Japan-UAE relationship and said she hopes to “continue to strengthen our bilateral relationship in various fields under the Comprehensive Strategic Partner Initiative.”
Dr. Al Jaber conveyed the best wishes of the UAE’s senior leaders, in particular from UAE Foreign Minister Sheik Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and spoke of his pleasure in meeting Kamikawa again.
“I come to Japan this time with a great ambition,” he continued. “This ambition is built on our historic number of decades whereby we were able to establish a very strong bilateral partnership. This partnership spans many sectors and many areas, all of which have contributed to the enhancement and strengthening of our bilateral relationship. There are a few points I want to emphasize in today’s meeting and these points will have a direct positive impact on how we can expand the scope of our cooperation.”
The two ministers agreed to hold the Second Ministerial Level Meeting of the (CSPI) later this year. They also exchanged views on cooperation between Japan and the UAE on stabilizing the international crude oil market and on ways to strengthen the bilateral economic relationship.
