TOKYO: Tokyo Governor KOIKE Yuriko made a speech on the last day of campaigning for Sunday’s Tokyo gubernatorial election and promised to deliver “Tokyo Reform 3.0” to the citizens of Tokyo if she is re-elected.

Speaking in the upmarket shopping area of Ginza on Saturday, Koike promised, “I am going to further upgrade my two terms and eight years and promote ‘Tokyo Reform 3.0.’ I will extend the present free childcare costs for a second child to first children, develop the economy and protect you from disasters.”

Many people showed up to listen to Koike on the last day of the campaign but not all were supporters. While many cheered the governor on and backed her for a third term, there were some dissenting voices who criticized some of her policy decisions and politics.

A few shouted “Give up!” and “Get lost!” while others held up placards and blasted Koike for her decision to back the felling of trees in the Gaien district of Tokyo to allow a massive redevelopment.

Another critic cried, “A vote for Yuriko Koike is a vote for the LDP,” referring to the increasingly unpopular ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
