
TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko held a telephone meeting with her Lebanese counterpart Abdallah BouHabib on Thursday and expressed her concern at the situation in the Middle East.
Kamikawa stated that Japan is paying close attention to what’s happening in the Middle East and emphasized the importance of avoiding tit-for-tat attacks and moving to calm down the situation in the region.
She said Japan has been reaching out to all the parties concerned and also requested cooperation in protecting Japanese nationals should the situation deteriorate.
In response, Minister BouHabib admitted that the situation was becoming increasingly tense. He recognized the value of Japan’s cooperation and said he shares the concerns expressed by Foreign Minister Kamikawa.
BouHabib outlined the latest situation on the ground as well as Lebanese diplomatic efforts in trying to resolve issues. He also assured Kamikawa that Lebanon spares no effort in ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals.
The two ministers confirmed that the two countries will continue to work together to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.
