TOKYO: Japan’s inbound visitors dipped below 3 million for the first time in six months but stayed on pace for a record year, official data showed on Wednesday.
The number of foreign visitors for business and leisure was 2.93 million, down from 3.29 million in July that was an all-time high for any month, data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) showed.
Visitors to Japan had exceeded 3 million every month from February, on track to smash the yearly record of 31.9 million set in 2019. The August figures were still 36% higher than those a year ago, JNTO said.
