TOKYO: Popular Japanese comedian Ken Shimura died on Sunday after being infected with the novel coronavirus, it was learned on Monday. He was 70.

On March 19, Shimura told a doctor he had fever and difficulty breathing. After being delivered to a Tokyo hospital on the following day, he was diagnosed as having severe pneumonia. The comedian tested positive for the virus on March 23.
