TOKYO: Egyptian Ambassador to Japan, Ragui ElEtreby, met with Members of Parliament Yamashita Takashi and Komura Mashiro to discuss enhancing bilateral relations. During the meeting, they underscored the important role of the Egyptian Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Association in fostering cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Egyptian Embassy, the lawmakers, who are members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, expressed their commitment to promoting collaboration in the parliamentary sphere to strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and Japan.

Ambassador ElEtreby congratulated the parliamentarians on the election of Ms. Takaichi Sanae as Japan’s first female prime minister. He emphasized that the Egyptian leadership looks forward to working closely with the new government in Tokyo to activate the bilateral strategic partnership announced in 2023 and to enhance high-level exchanges. The ambassador highlighted the vital role of both countries’ legislative institutions in this effort.

Additionally, Ambassador ElEtreby reviewed the positive developments resulting from the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, including a reduction in hostilities and an increase in humanitarian aid. He praised Japan’s supportive stance on humanitarian assistance and expressed hope for Japan’s active and significant participation in the International Conference on Reconstruction and Early Recovery, which will be held in Cairo in November. He noted the crucial role Tokyo could play in mobilizing international support for reconstruction efforts.

The two parliament members expressed their appreciation to the ambassador for the meeting, which they deemed important for enhancing bilateral ties. Moreover, they commended Egypt’s efforts in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
