TOKYO: The situation on the Korean Peninsula continues to be volatile, with both sides, the North and South Koreans, the Americans, and the Japanese, engaged in mutual accusations, sanction and condemnation.

Observers say there is an evident lack of diplomatic willingness among all the parties involved.

The political leaders of these nations appear to be preparing for war possibilities rather than looking to diplomacy. The East Asian region now seems to be under the influence of its military planners while diplomats are looking at the other direction.

In this context, North Korea has said that the US military has been intentionally escalating the political and military situation in the region by taking military action aimed at threatening its security.

As proof, it mentions the arrival of the nuclear-powered supercarrier George Washington strike group belonging to the US 7th Fleet.

The North believes the US is preparing for war.

“In this environment, what attitude does the world expect us to take and what do we expect it to do? We have no choice,” a bulletin from North Korea said. “We clearly understand the hostility of the United States, which seeks to maintain a confrontational stance with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

“We are prepared to respond to any situation. We will take even more aggressive action against threats from hostile forces.”
