TOKYO: Japanese Ambassador to Jordan ASARI Hideki and Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan on Tuesday signed and exchanged notes for the Resilience Building and Human Capital Development Program Loan for Economic Growth and the Economic and Social Development Program.
The loan deal is for up to 15.5 billion yen ($100 million), while the Economic and Social Development Program is for a grant amount of up to 745 million yen ($4.8 million).
Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported that the loan is expected to contribute to the stability of the Jordanian economy and the promotion of development efforts as the government works to improve resilience and promote human capital development for economic growth. The loan will be paid over a 15-year period after a 5-year grace period.
The Economic and Social Development Program is for the provision of cybersecurity equipment as Jordan has been facing an increasing threat from cyberattacks in recent years.
By providing cybersecurity equipment, including products from Japanese companies, it is expected that it will enable Jordan to strengthen its surveillance and cybersecurity response system and contribute to the country’s economic and social development through social stabilization.
