TOKYO: The Japan Communist Party says it has donated 620,000 yen to the United Nations’ World Food Program from donations that the JCP collected in Japan for humanitarian aid to Gaza citizens.

JCP Secretariat member TAGAWA Minoru met with Tamura Yasuhiro from the UN World Food Program’s Japan Office to deliver the donations.

The WFP Japan Relations Office Director pointed out that the situation surrounding humanitarian aid in Gaza is getting tough and stressed that it is necessary to continue providing support and helping to advance the peace process in Gaza.

Tsumura thanked the JCP and said that in June, the WFP was only able to reach 10,000 Gaza citizens with food due to Israel’s blockade, leaving the entire Gaza Strip in a state of famine. However, he said that after the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was concluded in October, the UN organization was able deliver food assistance to 1.8 million Gazans and resume the operation of its school meal program.

Tagawa said that the JCP will work to realize a just peace for Palestinians.
