TOKYO: Japan’s Coast Guard reported on Wednesday that it recently conducted a joint exercise in Mumbai to strengthen cooperation and collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard.
The exercise with a Japan Coast Guard National Strike Team and specialists from the Indian Coast Guard focused on marine environmental protection and disaster response.
The two sides also held a high-level meeting in New Delhi, headed by Japan Coast Guard Commandant SEGUCHI Yoshio and Director General Paramesh Sivamani of the Indian Coast Guard.
The two coast guard leaders confirmed the importance of cooperation and collaboration between the two agencies in realizing a “Free and Open Indo Pacific” and recognized the importance of their recent exchanges and cooperation.
They also discussed collaboration and coordination concerning the Fifth Coast Guard Global Summit, which will be held in India in 2027.
The joint exercise with specialists from the two coast guards focused on response to hazardous and noxious substances.
During the exercise, a demonstration drill simulating an ammonia leak from a chemical tanker was conducted. In the drill, personnel from both agencies sought to identify the source of the leak and implement countermeasures.
