TOKYO: Japan on Saturday called on its citizens in 55 countries across four continents to be extra cautious, “as the U.S. military forces are building up in the Middle East”.
The Safety Department of the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo stated, “The situation in the Middle East may change rapidly, as reports indicate the U.S. is increasing its military presence following two unsuccessful rounds of talks with Iran since February 6th.”
The warning applies to every Arab nation, as well as Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Israel, all of which Japan considers part of the Middle East.
The alert stretches across Europe, from Iceland and Albania to Spain, Germany, and beyond, covering every corner of the continent.
The advisory also stretched to North America, with the United States and Canada on the list, as well as Eritrea in Africa and several Asian countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkmenistan.
“Gather the latest information from multiple sources, including flight updates and potential impacts of the Middle East situation on your country of residence. Take steps to ensure your safety, such as avoiding U.S. military facilities,” the advisory said.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry further warned that “unexpected events could unfold even on U.S. soil due to the Middle East crisis.” It is rare for Japan to issue a safety warning pertaining to America.
“If the situation escalates, many countries may experience flight cancellations or delays due to airspace and airport closures. Please monitor the latest updates, including flight information.”
The advisory encourages Japanese citizens to keep loved ones and colleagues updated with their travel plans and contact details, ensuring they can be reached in an emergency.
