According to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staf, several bullets were fired from the North Korean side toward the South Korean surveillance station on the North-South military boundary on May 3.

The South Korean military responded by broadcasting a warning and returning fire to the North Korean side.

The North Korean gunfire did not injure anyone or cause any discernible damage to the guard post or its equipment.

"We are in the process of grasping the situation with the North Korean side through the military communication line and taking measures to prevent additional situations from occurring,” South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff explained, while stressing that "there is a necessary response system".
