TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu agreed with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi on Thursday on the importance of ensuring the safety of navigation for vessels of all countries through the Strait of Hormuz.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported that Motegi had a telephone conversation with al Busaidi and emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is a strategic chokepoint for global logistics and serves the international community.
He told Al Busaidi that Japan welcomes the ceasefire deal announced by both the United States and Iran as a positive development, and that de-escalation was of prime importance.
He expressed his hope that a final agreement will be reached promptly through diplomatic means.
Minister al Busaidi stated that Oman has been consistently emphasizing the importance of resolving issues through dialogue and diplomatic means, and it would like to continue cooperating with Japan towards the stabilization of the situation, including the safety of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
