TOKYO: Following recent exchanges of missile attacks between Iran and Israel, Japan has warned its citizens of a potential rapid deterioration in the security situation across the Middle East and beyond.

“Individuals currently in the Middle East are advised to avoid military facilities and refrain from taking photographs or videos of (sensitive) sites or damage caused by attacks,  and are urged to gather information from multiple sources,” the Travel Safety Department of the Foreign Ministry announced. It advised citizens to determine the local impact of any action and to check flight schedules.

The Foreign Ministry said unforeseen incidents could occur elsewhere, so travelers worldwide should maintain a higher level of vigilance and share their itineraries with family and employers.

The Ministry also advised those staying for more than three months to submit a residence registration form.
