TOKYO: Japanese economic revitalization minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said Sunday that a third-party review of measures the government has taken to deal with the novel coronavirus outbreak should be conducted after the crisis is brought under control.

The government steps need to be "assessed after the situation settles down in order to come up with a better policy," Nishimura, who is in charge of the government's response to the epidemic, told a press conference.

"I hope that the measures will be fully reviewed from a third-party perspective to find out what we should've done, as well as what we should do (to prepare for a possible new outbreak of an infectious disease in the future)," he added.
