Japan’s FM Motegi to make unscheduled visit to Kuwait

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Eiichiro Washio said Thursday that Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, currently on a tour to Portugal, France and Saudi Arabia, will make an unscheduled visit to Kuwait to pay respect and extend condolences on the passing of the late Emir Sheikh Sabah.

After signing the guest book at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Tokyo and expressing his condolences, Washio said, “We would like to inform you that Foreign Minister Motegi will visit Kuwait to mourn the passing of the late Sheikh Al-Sabah. We’d also like to express our promise to develop and further boost bilateral ties under the new Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah.”

The ambassador of Kuwait to Japan, Hasan Mohammed Zaman, said he appreciated that Japanese leaders have been expressing their remorse and condolences and pledging support to enhance bilateral relations. Ambassador Zaman also said that new leadership in both countries will continue to expand bilateral relations in all aspects.

Diplomatic sources in Tokyo told Arab News Japan that the expected date for Minister Motegi visit to Kuwait is Oct. 4. A Foreign Ministry official told Arab News Japan on Tuesday that the Japanese minister is expected to leave Paris and arrive in Riyadh on October 2 and depart the following day to return home.

The Kuwaiti Embassy in Tokyo received Japanese mourners today from various business, economic, academic and official circles, along with diplomats from various embassies.
