TOKYO: The Japanese government will continue to pay close attention to the situation in Sudan, including the implementation of the Peace Agreement signed on October 3, in Juba, capital of South Sudan, between the Sudanese Transitional Government and Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), Sudan’s main rebel alliance.

An official statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said Japan appreciates the efforts which has brought great progress for all relevant parties in Sudan toward the future transition to civilian rule.

If the situation is right, Japan which has proactively engaged itself in the international discussion toward the consolidation of peace in Sudan as a member of “Friends of Sudan” will spare no effort to give development assistance to ensure peace in the country.

To this end, Japan finds it necessary for all parties concerned to comply with the agreement toward civilian rule concluded in August last year in good faith and address challenges set forth by the Transitional Government in a cooperative manner, the statement said.

Japan also hopes that all parties involved will make further efforts toward the conclusion of a comprehensive peace agreement with the participation of the other armed groups which have not joined the Peace Agreement.
