Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said that it is important for the G20 summit, hosted under Saudi Arabia’s presidency this year, to discuss the response to the COVID-19 pandemic as a priority.

“COVID-19 has brought a great damage to the world economy, and we need to recover” from the impact of the pandemic, Motegi said at press conference replying to a question from Arab News Japan.

“Furthermore, we need to restart cross border travel and to create the new international order for post-COVID-19 world. We believe that it is important that the message of the leadership of G20 is delivered in the G20 Summit in Saudi Arabia.”

Foreign minister Motegi noted that “last year, we chaired G20 therefore we would like to support Saudi Arabia as the chair of G20 summit in 2020. This is what I conveyed when I visited Saudi Arabia earlier this month.”
