Arabs among recipients of Japan’s Foreign Minister’s Commendations

TOKYO: On Dec. 1, Japan’s Foreign Ministry announced its Foreign Minister’s Commendations for 2020 that include Arab individuals and groups who contributed to promoting friendship and mutual understanding with Japan.

The commendations will be awarded to 172 individuals and 65 groups (20 individuals and 11 groups reside in Japan, and 152 individuals and 54 groups reside overseas). The recipients will be presented with an award certificate and individuals will be presented with a commemorative gift.

The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas.

The commendations also aim to promote understanding and support for the activities of the recipients.

JICA Alumni Association in Beirut, Lebanon is awarded for the promotion of mutual understanding with Japan.

Mohamed El Sayed Omar Moussa, President of Egyptian Aikido Association in Cairo is awarded for promotion of mutual understanding through martial arts between Japan and Egypt.

From Tunisia, Ikebana Study Group TUNISIE Ariana, is awarded for promotion of Japanese Culture in Tunisia.

Also Rotary Club Tunis El Menzah Ariana, of Tunisia is awarded for promotion of mutual understanding between both countries.

Ali Attas Chief Instructor of Swahili Language at the Foreign Service Training Institute of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kanagawa prefecture is awarded for promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and foreign countries.

Umishima Ken, Former Director/Lecturer at Japan Studies Centre at the University of Bahrain is awarded for promotion of Japanese language education in Bahrain. 

The ceremony which normally takes place each year will not be held this year, due to the spread of the coronavirus disease.
