WASHINGTON: The US government Friday declined to say whether President Joe Biden will visit Japan to attend this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.

“He hasn’t received it yet,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said of an invitation from Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to attend the Tokyo Games.

Suga suggested Friday that he will invite Biden to the Tokyo Olympics during their talks in the United States next month.

At a press briefing, Psaki said, “I don’t have any predictions on what the president’s travel will look like this summer.”

“We understand the careful considerations that the Japanese government and the International Olympic Committee are weighing as they prepare for the Tokyo Olympics,” she said.

On Suga’s planned visit to the United States, Psaki said, “We, of course, look forward to welcoming the prime minister to Washington soon.”
