The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 421 new coronavirus infection cases Sunday, the first daily number below 500 in five days.
But Sunday’s tally was far higher than 355 a week before. The latest seven-day average rose 20.1 percent to 468.0.
Of the day’s total, 138 cases were in their twenties, 78 in their thirties, and 61 in their forties. Those aged 65 or over totaled 46.
The number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients under Tokyo’s standards rose by two from Saturday to 39.
