NAHA, Okinawa Pref.: Two Chinese coast guard ships left Japanese waters off the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture, southernmost Japan, on Tuesday after staying in the area for about 21 hours.

The two Haijing ships entered Japanese waters south-southeast of Minamikojima, one of the East China Sea islands, around 11:40 a.m.  Monday (2:40 a.m. GMT) and left the waters roughly between 8:40 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. the next day, according to the Japan Coast Guard’s 11th regional headquarters in Naha, the capital of Okinawa.

The ships approached Japanese fishing boats while staying in the waters.

The Japanese-administered islands are claimed by China, which calls them Diaoyu.
