TOKYO: The Dubai Expo, currently taking place in the United Arab Emirates, will feature a “Japan Day” on Dec. 11 and there have been calls for senior Japanese politicians to attend this important event.

With the Kansai area set to host the Osaka and Kansai Expo in 2025, the lack of representation in Dubai has surprised some, Japanese media have reported.

Japan Innovation Party Diet Affairs Committee Chairman Takashi Endo has called on his Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) counterpart Tsuyoshi Takagi to send some Cabinet members to the Dubai Expo. He said the lack of Cabinet members’ participation at the Dubai Expo will cast doubt about how much Japan is eager to invite foreign visitors to the Japanese pavilion.

During the Dubai Expo, the National Days are being held to celebrate every participating country.

At a meeting held between the LDP and the Japan Innovation Party held on Thursday, Endo said that if no Japanese Cabinet members go to the Dubai Expo it will diminish the standing of the Japan pavilion. He called on Takagi to send representatives from the Cabinet.

Osaka Governor Yoshifumi Yoshimura and members from the business circle in the Kansai region will visit the Dubai Expo, but no decision has been taken regarding Cabinet members, who may be required to attend session in the Diet.
