BEIJING

Nintendo Co. said Wednesday it will release the Nintendo Switch video game console in China on Tuesday, marking the Japanese company's latest attempt to crack the world's biggest game market.

The Japanese game maker has formed a partnership with Chinese technology giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. for the launch of the Switch. The console will have a suggested retail price of 2,099 yuan.

According to Chinese media reports, Nintendo will release hit title New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe in line with the release of the console. Titles Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey will also be launched within a few weeks.

Nintendo is moving forward with preparations to sell the Nintendo Switch Lite, a smaller version of the Switch, according to the media reports.

The company entered the Chinese market in 2003, but suffered poor sales of the Nintendo DS and 3DS portable consoles.

In China, Microsoft Corp. launched a console in 2014 and Sony Corp. followed suit in 2015 after the country lifted a ban on consoles imposed out of concern about their possible negative effects on young people.
