TOKYO

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office indicted Japanese actress Erika Sawajiri on Friday for possessing synthetic drugs MDMA and LSD at her home in violation of the drug control law.

Sawajiri's lawyer filed a bail request with Tokyo District Court, and this was granted. After five million yen was paid, Sawajiri was released from the Tokyo Wangan police station Friday night.

According to the indictment and other sources, Sawajiri had 0.198 gram of MDMA powder at her home in Meguro Ward in the Japanese capital Nov. 16.

She also had a 0.084-gram piece of paper that included LSD and 0.601 gram of LSD liquid.

Sawajiri, 33, was arrested Nov. 16 by Tokyo's Metropolitan Police Department on suspicion of possessing a capsule containing MDMA at her home.

According to investigative sources, Sawajiri explained that she received the illegal drugs from her former boyfriend, Naoki Yokokawa, a 38-year-old fashion designer. He has also been arrested on suspicion of violating the law.

Sawajiri said she had used illegal drugs for over 10 years, but her urine tests did not show positive results, the sources said.

"We again apologize to fans and parties concerned," entertainment agency Avex Management Inc., which manages Sawajiri, said.

The company said it will consider action against Sawajiri after seeing the outcome of her trial.

In a statement, Sawajiri offered her deep apologies to fans and others. She promised not to use any illegal drugs again so that she can start anew.
