TOKYO: The “2022 International Robot Exhibition (iREX 2022),” the world’s largest robot trade show, opened in Tokyo on March 9.

The trade show displays domestic and foreign robot companies’ latest technology and products. It also introduces next-generation robot technology to cope with evolving intelligence and information technology.

Omron Corporation introduced the seventh generation of their table tennis robot FORPHEUS, one of the most popular spots.

The two players and the machine teamed up for doubles. The machine measures the “collaboration” and emotional “sympathy” of the players based on their facial expressions, heart rate, blinking frequency, rally speed, and body movements.

The robot itself evaluates its table tennis performance in real-time and calculates the camera’s misalignment, motor performance, and surface deterioration of the racket.

Omron said it put forward its concept of “i-Automation!” that solves the challenges of manufacturing sites with innovation.

In the manufacturing industry, which faces difficulties securing human resources, robotics technology is used to entrust human-dependent work to machines, aiming for field innovation where people can engage in creative work with confidence.
