TOKYO: The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 3,161 new COVID-19 cases in the Japanese capital Sunday, down 1,775 from a week before.

The seven-day average of new infections stood at 4,238.3, down 22.5 percent.

There were six new fatal cases. The number of severely ill coronavirus patients under the metropolitan government’s criteria fell by two from Saturday to nine.
