TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio held a telephone talk with the Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, on September 15, and stated that Qatar is an important partner for Japan and expressed his intention to elevate the comprehensive bilateral partnership to the strategic level and to work with Sheikh Tamim to strengthen their cooperation. 

Prime Minister Kishida also expressed his gratitude for the message of condolences from Sheikh Tamim on the passing of former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo. In response, Sheikh Tamim once again offered his condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister Abe, the foreign ministry in Tokyo said.

In the talks, Prime Minister Kishida once again expressed his gratitude for Qatar’s s assistance in departing those who have relations with Japan from Afghanistan. 

In response, Sheikh Tamim expressed his renewed hopes for strengthening bilateral relations with Japan, and the two leaders confirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector further and agreed to promote efforts to achieve carbon neutrality jointly. 

In addition, the two leaders confirmed to expand the partnership further by promoting a wide range of cooperation in various fields, including economic, security, defense and academic exchange, through the framework of the Japan-Qatar Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Qatar.
