Naha, Okinawa: Two Chinese coast guard ships intruded into Japanese waters around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture on Saturday.

As the Haijing vessels tried to approach a Japanese fishing boat, patrol ships of the Japan Coast Guard guarded the fishing boat and urged the Chinese vessels to leave the Japanese waters.

This was the 22nd intrusion into the Japanese waters by a Chinese government ship this year and the first since Wednesday.

The Haijing ships crossed into the Japanese waters around 3:15 a.m. (6:15 p.m. Friday GMT) and left the waters between around 2:10 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., according to the JCG’s 11th regional headquarters in Naha, the capital of Okinawa.

The Japanese-administered East China Sea islands are claimed by China, which calls them Diaoyu.
