TOKYO: An earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 4 struck Ishikawa Prefecture around 13:44 on Friday, the Japan Meteorological agency said.

It had an estimated magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter Scale at a depth of 10 km and the epicenter was in the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture on Japan’s northern coast.

There was no danger of a tsunami from this earthquake, the agency said.

The Noto Peninsula has been hit by repeated earthquakes, and today tremor shaken Niigata, Nagano, and Gifu prefectures in the Hokuriku region.

Train networks were unaffected by the earthquakes and Hokuriku Electric Power’s Shika Nuclear Power Station reported no abnormalities.

Local media quoted an employee of the Suzu City Hall Crisis Management Division as saying, “I felt a short tremor of about 4 to 5 seconds at the government building, but no objects fell.”
