TOKYO: Kim Yo Jong, Deputy Minister of the Workers’ Party of Korea in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and sister of leader Kim Jong Un, released a statement on Friday accusing the United States of pursuing “its own hegemonic objectives by further expanding its proxy war to destroy Russia.”
Kim’s remarks were prompted by the United States’ decision to supply battle tanks and other military equipment to Ukraine, which, Kim says, was “fueling the continuation of global unrest” and “crossing a further danger line.”
“If it weren’t for the United States, the world would be brighter, safer and more peaceful than it is now,” Kim said. “The United States is the one responsible for creating serious threats and challenges to Russia’s strategic security and driving the regional situation into the precarious situation it is today.”
By sending ground-attack combat equipment to Ukraine, US actions are escalating the war situation, she added. Kim also seemed to make a reference to America’s attitude to his own country.
“The United States and Western nations, which are destroying world peace and regional security by delivering astronomical amounts of military equipment to Ukraine in utter disregard for Russia’s security concerns, have no right to slander a sovereign state’s right to self-defense,” she stated. “I have no doubt that any military equipment that the United States and the West boast will burn to a pile of scrap iron in the face of the indomitable fighting spirit and power of the heroic Russian army and people.”
