DUBAI: The Japanese Embassy in Turkiye lowered its Japanese flag at half-mast on Wednesday to commemorate the lives lost in the earthquakes on Feb. 6 that killed over 5000 people in Turkiye and Syria.

In a tweet posted on Wednesday, the embassy said: “We lowered our flag at half-mast at our Embassy to commemorate those who lost their lives in the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Japan’s Foreign Minister HAYASHI Yoshimasa on Tuesday said that the Asian country’s government expressed its heartfelt condolences to the victims of the earthquakes and their families in both Turkiye and Syria.

Hayashi expressed solidarity with the people affected and said Japan planned to swiftly provide the necessary assistance.

On Feb. 6, Japan dispatched Japan Disaster Relief Rescue Team to Türkiye, at the request of the Turkish government, to conduct a search and rescue operation.
