Japan’s Minister for Disaster Management extends condolences at Syrian Embassy

TOKYO: TANI Koichi, Japan’s Minister of State for Disaster Management, visited the Syrian Embassy in Tokyo on Friday and offered condolences to the victims of the recent earthquakes in the region.

Chargé D’affaires Mohammed Najeeb Elji held a meeting with Minister Koichi and briefed him on the effects of the devastating earthquakes and the situation in the affected areas, including the risk of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure.

Elji mentioned Japan’s experience in dealing with these aspects, in addition to a review of aid provided by Japan to Syria. He said the aid was greatly appreciated.

Earlier, TAKEI Masaaki, the Governor of Minato-ku district in Tokyo, and Chairman of the City Municipal Council YUKI Kumiko, also offered their condolences at the embassy.

At the end of the visit, the Governor and Council Chairman made financial donations in the name of Minato-ku to the embassy’s fund for earthquake victims.
