TOKYO: Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu issued a statement on July 30, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of international support following the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.

In his message, Minister Motegi offered his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and expressed his heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by the disaster.

The Minister acknowledged the warm messages of solidarity and the numerous offers of assistance received from foreign ministers, countries, and international organizations worldwide. He extended his sincere gratitude for these gestures.

Regarding the ongoing response, the Minister stated that the Government of Japan is working in earnest to conduct rescue operations and provide aid to the affected regions. He noted that officials are currently assessing the situation and needs on the ground to determine how international offers of support can be most effectively utilized for recovery and reconstruction efforts.
