TOKYO: Japan’s Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu says Japan is not planning to review its travel guidance for GCC countries before June 19.

Motegi was asked at a news conference if the agreement between Iran and the United States could prompt a review of travel guidance and risk information for Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

On Tuesday, he replied: “I intend to make an appropriate judgment while assessing the regional situation and so on, including the status of implementation of the memorandum of understanding agreed upon between the US and Iran.”

The government of Japan has officially designated the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states as Level 3 on its risk assessment scale. This classification advises against all travel to the region and recommends that Japanese residents currently located therein consider departing if their presence is not deemed essential.
