TOKYO: Following Saturday’s official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty thanked Japan for its support in the construction of the Museum.

Japan’s Foreign Ministry said Abdelatty met with Japan’s visiting State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU Ayano on Saturday to express Egypt’s gratitude toward Japan’s support for the museum, as well as its contributions to economic cooperation with Egypt in other fields such as education, infrastructure, and culture.

Abdelatty said he had expectations for the expansion of Japanese companies into Egypt and stated that, based on the strategic partnership, he would like to build stronger business relations that benefit both countries.

Kunimitsu said that it was an honor to attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum as a special envoy of Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae and handed over a letter from Prime Minister to President El-Sisi that expressed her determination to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Kunimitsu also commended Egypt’s leading role in achieving a ceasefire and stabilization in Gaza and stated that Japan would also play an active role in the steady implementation of the “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict,” the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, and the realization of a “two-state solution” in close cooperation with Egypt.
